Lentsman and Peterson from Rezhitsa request me to put a stop to the renaming of former Lettish regiments. I am sending their request to you.[1]

- â In a telegram to the Soviet Government of Latvia on July 17, 1919, Lenin wrote: âPlease get in touch with Stalin, member of the Revolutionary Military Council of the Western Front, on the question of the change of name.â = (Lenin Miscellany XXXIV, p. 194.) The renaming of the Lettish Division did not take place; it retained its old nameâthe Lettish Rifle Division.
