Letter to the Chief Coal Committee, January 14, 1920
Written on a report from P. N. Solonko concerning deposits of coal, pyrites and white sand for chinaware in the vicinity of Bryansk. âThe area on which coal has been discovered,â Solonko stated, âis approximately 40 versts square. With the present means and productivity of labour, the yield of coal could amount to about 3,500,000 poods annually, and if production is well organised... the yield could be more than 10 million poods.â = Lenin wrote on the envelope containing Solonkoâs report: = âFrom P. N. Solonko on coal in the Maltsev area.â
On January 15, 1920, Lenin received from the Chief Coal Committee a memo giving information about the coal deposits near Bryansk. âI am sending you the present information,â wrote A. Lomov. âOne of our best coal geologists has promised to go to the siteâ (Collected Works, Fifth Ed., Vol. 51, p. 403).
