Dear Comrade:

Although I do not allow myself any great illusions in regard to Vinnichenko, I fully support your proposal to delete the words “of the type of Vinnichenko and Company” from my article. You may immediately remove these words from the text you have. I am simultaneously writing to New York with the same correction.

You are right that my information on the Ukrainian question, especially in the sphere of individual And group moods, is far from being adequate. If my evaluation of Vinnichenko’s line is mistaken, I am fully prepared to acknowledge this publicly (in particular if the article has already been printed in the Russian Biulleten with Vinnichenko’s name in it).

Of course I am willing to write him not one but a dozen letters, since a rapprochement with him would of course have great significance. But I hesitate to write him now in France because of the war, as my letter might compromise him. It would be good if you or some other comrade who has contact with Vinnichenko were to inquire what his attitude is toward the positions I have developed [on the Ukraine] in my recent articles.

I am submitting a short piece on Kerensky and Company for your pamphlet; in my opinion it would go well there. In addition I am submitting a short preface for the pamphlet.

I would be grateful to you if you would inform me of developments from time to time in the future.
