This is in reply to a communication from the Presidium of the Socialist Academy of Social Sciences on February 23, 1922 informing Lenin of his election as member of the Academy on February 5.
Lenin wrote the published document under the text of the communication, and there is also on it his remark: “Reply on letterhead and let me sign.”
In reply to No. [577] of [February 23, 1922][1]
Thank you very much. Unfortunately, I am quite unable, because of my illness, to perform the duty of member of the Socialist Academy, if only in the slightest degree. I do not want to be a fictitious one. I ask you, therefore, to delete my name from the list of members or not to enter it at all.
27/II. Lenin
