The First Article in the Russian Discussion

Dear Comrade Rose:

I didn’t answer your last letter because we had here a very hot time with the Life article and other things.

I will write as often for the Appeal as I can. The American friends do so much for our household that I don’t see any reason why they should pay for my articles. The best thing would be to sell the archives which could give me the possibility to devote all my time to the party press. Can you speak about this again with Goldman and Glenner [Jan Frankel]?

I send simultaneously the Russian text of the USSR article to Vanzler for translation. I don't see, I must confess, any reason to hinder discussion on this matter. Better to take the initiative and to show that the events did not take us unaware.

It would be good if you communicate to me the reactions of comrades of both camps to the last article on the USSR.

With warmest comradely greeting,

L. Trotsky
