Mother dearest,
I have received your letter and Manya’s. A big merci for them. Today I received a second letter from Manyasha with the pleasant news that there is no need for me to write to our acquaintance a second time. I am worried that your apartment is so cold; what will it he like in winter if the temperature is only 12° now? You must not catch cold.... Is there nothing you can do? Perhaps you should put in a small stove. That is often done here (we do not need it because we have steam heating and it is very warm), and we did it in Siberia. So far there has been no great cold, here, at any rate, but the winter is still to come.
I am very, very grateful to Manyasha for the news. If she should have an opportunity I should very much like her to obtain for me the new Moscow agricultural statistics (1907–09) and to find out (even from a shop) how much Izvestiya zemleustroitelnykh komissii costs; I cannot get this publication through acquaintances and I need it.
