Comrade Stalin:
Please show Comrade Tomsky this draft letter (and if necessary, also to Kamenev, Zinoviev, Rykov, etc.) and please return to me, retyped, not later than tomorrow.
I shall send it in to the congress by the 16th, or whenever necessary.[1]
Lenin
- â A reference to a draft letter to the Fifth All-Russia Congress of Trade Unions, with the initials of members of the CC Politbureau and this note by M. P. Tomsky: âIt would be good to bring out the workers in greater relief, and a couple of words about large-scale industry being the basis of socialism.â Apparently in connection with this remark, Lenin added to the third sentence this insertion: âand it is precisely that part of industry known as heavy industry which is the main basis of socialismâ (present edition, Vol. 33, pp. 370â71).
Leninâs letter was read out at the first sitting of the congress on September 17, 1922.
