Diego Rivera's Defection
Dear Friend:
I received your letter concerning your propositions to the universities and the second enclosure. I also received a corresponding letter from Comrade Goldman. Everything is done that can be done and now we must wait.
Have you received all the documents concerning the painter?' What are your plans in respect to this matter? His political âevolutionâ is very rapid. A few days ago he declared, in the society of a heterogeneous group, that Lenin was no more than a bourgeois. His new friend, OâGorman, confirmed this profound opinion and proclaimed that for the genuine revolutionary, the only way remaining was toward anarchism. The sooner we openly separate ourselves from him politically, the better.
On the personal plane, I wish simply a serious warning to him as quickly as possible, without publicity. It can be done only by the Pan-American Committee. James is here and can make the necessary investigation upon your commission. I hope that Dobbs will also come here and you can use him for the same purpose. You have here your official representative, C[urtiss]. What more can be done? You are completely informed.
My warmest greetings,
L.D.
P.S. I have just received the two statements of the PAC concerning the painter and his Partido. Very well. Now the political question is almost liquidated, but the personal one remains.
