Author(s) | Leon Trotsky |

The Tragedy of the Chinese Revolution. Last month [Harold R.] Isaacs's book (502 pages) appeared under this title in English. The book, which presents the history of the Chinese revolution, offers an exceptional example of contemporary Marxist literature. The author is exceptionally well acquainted with the subject. He spent several years in China as an active and serious observer and in part as a participant in events. The body of international literature that served as the basis of his work is truly enormous. The author has a facile command of the method of historical materialism and writes in clear, precise, and convincing language. The book should be a handbook for everyone who is really interested in the future of China and the Chinese revolution. The aim of this note is to direct all the comrades' attention to Comrade Isaacs's book. I want to express also the hope that the book will appear soon in other languages. Above all it must be translated into Chinese.
