For the sake of historical truth I request you to insert the enclosed reply [1] to one of the most infamous slanders ever concocted. [2]
I regret that the Daily Chronicle which has done such good service to the working class in England should allow its correspondents abroad to spread calumnious reports about Continental working class movements and their leaders. ⟦Passage crossed out in the manuscript : Your Paris correspondent seems to be jealous of your Berlin one, about whose true character I believe you have been some time ago told the truth.⟧
