Written in reply to a letter from A. P. Golubkov, Deputy Chairman of the Central Committee of the Red Cross Society of Russia, of February 21, 1922, which said that the Society was publishing for famine relief, an illustrated collection in Russian and three foreign languages for distribution in Russia and abroad. The letter said its Central Committee requested Lenin to let them have “a few lines of your facsimile” for the collection (Central Party Archives of the Institute of Marxism-Leninism of the CPSU Central Committee).

Dear Comrades:

I am very sorry and hope that you will excuse me for being unable, because of my illness, to let you have an article or a letter for your collection, something that ought to have been done. The Soviet power has been doing everything possible and a few impossible things, is doing and will continue to do this to help the starving. Best regards and wishes for the complete success of your publication.
