To Comrade Molotov for Politbureau members

I have a letter from Solts, who has come out, on the basis of the available experience, against the newspaper Rabochy. He says it is used only to feed superfluous writers, without in any sense producing a new type of newspaper or a different readership. I think it would be more correct to close down the newspaper, allowing it a short period for liquidation, and to make use of the released manpower and facilities to improve the existing newspapers.[1]

  1. ↑ This letter was the result of a protest sent to the Politbureau of the RCP(b) CC by K. S. Yeremeyev, editor of the newspaper Rabochy, over the directives issued by the Orgbureau of the CC of March 6, 1922, to have the size of the paper reduced and its nature, content, etc., changed.
    On March 23, the Politbureau confirmed the Orgbureau decision, and instructed the Central Committee’s Department for Agitation and Propaganda to call a conference with the participation of delegates to the Eleventh Party Congress to discuss the publication of a popular newspaper for workers.
    Rabochy (The Worker) was published by the RCP(b) Central Committee from March 1, 1922; beginning with No. 98 of July 1 it was called Rabochaya Gazeta, and was published until January 1932.
